Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the different AED models?
The short answer is that every AED unit you see listed on our website will walk a responder through the rescue process via verbal commands, automatically read the victim's ECG, determine whether a shock is necessary and deliver that lifesaving shock either by instructing the responder to push a button, or autonomously.

The best comparison across our extensive line of AED units is to a car. Any car you get into will take you from Point A to Point B. Some cars have leather seats, some have cloth. Some cars have a sunroof, some don't. Ultimately, it comes down to the bells & whistles that come with each unit.

Call us for details & let our experts outfit your organization with the best AED for your application.
What is the difference between a
Semi-Automatic & Fully Automatic AED?
The only difference between a semi-automatic AED and fully-automatic AED is whether or not a button must be pressed to deploy a shock.

Semi-automatic models will go through the above listed process and, if a shock is advised by the unit, it will instruct the responder to push the shock button to deploy a shock.

A fully automatic unit does not require a button to be pressed - the unit will go through the process and, if a shock is advised, the unit will advise the responder to step back, refrain from touching the victim, and deploy the shock automatically without requiring responder intervention.
Should I get a Semi-Automatic or Fully Automatic AED?
Ultimately, this decision comes down to personal/organizational preference. Both configurations will work very similarly, and both are simple enough for an un-trained, lay responder to use and deploy a life-saving defibrillation shock.

If your unit is likely to be used primarily by lay-responders, though, AED Professionals recommends a Fully Automatic unit. The reason for this is simple: lay-responders typically are not well versed in basic life-support and have a tendency to panic upon responding to an unconscious victim. With a fully automatic unit, all the responder has to worry about is applying the pads & turning the unit on. There is no opportunity for "stage fright" to set in and delay the pressing of a shock button as an advised shock will be deployed automatically.

If your unit is likely to be used primarily by those trained in AED & CPR use, AED Professionals recommends a Semi-Automatic unit. This is because those who are versed in basic life support tend to be more comfortable with a rescue situation, and may want control over when a shock is deployed.

Again, AED configuration is ultimately a matter of preference. If you have questions or concerns regarding which configuration is right for you, give us a call today at 866-914-1709, email info@aedprofessionals.com, or chat with us at the bottom right of this screen.
