Most monitoring problems are consumable problems rather than device problems. Electrode gel dries out well before the printed expiration date once a pouch is opened, and a reused or mismatched SpO2 sensor is the single most common cause of a reading a clinician does not trust. Buy sensors and electrodes in the pack size you will actually use within the open-pouch window, confirm the connector generation against your monitor before ordering, and keep one spare cable per unit so a failed lead never takes a monitor out of service.
